Michael Lau, Chairman of Consensus Hong Kong Consensus "The Gateway to Asia" Consensus Hong Kong 2025 Debuts in the City

One of the world’s largest and most established conferences on cryptocurrency and Web3, will take place in Hong Kong from February 18 to 20, 2025. This marks the first time in six years that the organiser, CoinDesk, is bringing the event outside of the United States. According to the event schedule, over 200 high-profile speakers from around the globe, including key representatives of the Hong Kong government, will deliver speeches. Notable speakers include Richard Teng, CEO of Binance; Gautam Sharma, CEO & CIO of Brevan Howard Digital; and Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Michael Lau, Chairman of Consensus Hong Kong, shared the vision behind bringing Consensus to Asia in an interview with 852Web3. “The key thing that Consensus brings to the industry is the ability to convene, like bringing together the top leaders and top voices of what's happening in this space.”

Michael, who joined the Web3 industry five years ago, described how difficult it used to be to access reliable information in the sector. He stated that Consensus bridges this gap by bringing together top industry leaders and minds. Michael emphasised that while Web3 promotes decentralisation, “nothing, I think, can replace real-life interaction” for building meaningful connections and advancing innovation.

But why choose Hong Kong? Michael explained that Hong Kong’s unique position as an international financial hub and its geographical advantages made it the ideal location for Consensus Hong Kong. Within just a four-hour flight radius, one can reach major cities across Asia, making Hong Kong a gateway to the region. This, coupled with the city’s world-class infrastructure, positions Hong Kong as a perfect host for large-scale international conferences capable of attracting talent from across the globe.

He also pointed out that many prominent Web3 companies have their roots in Hong Kong. In recent years, the Hong Kong government has made significant strides to establish the city as a Web3 financial hub. With its strong blend of technical infrastructure and policy support, Hong Kong offers an unparalleled setting for a conference of this magnitude.

The event has already attracted delegates from over 80 countries and regions. Michael believes that whether participants are Web3 natives or newcomers to the space, they will gain valuable insights and connections from the conference.
